Free food anyone?

This article was tweeted today by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) about how Arby's (an Atlanta based fast-food-chain) is promoting their new menu items. Today from 11:00am-1:00pm Arby’s is giving away its new Turkey Roaster sandwiches. This event is taking place all over the nation and Arby’s is expecting to give away around 1 million sandwiches!

This advertising campaign is extremely bold because of the financial risk Arby’s is taking by giving away free sandwiches. No other purchase is necessary and no coupon is required to receive the free sandwich, so Arby’s could potentially lose a lot of money because of this promotion. However, the company feels very strongly about adding Turkey Roasters to their menu and believes that it was long overdue.

"We can't believe it took us 48 years to add Turkey Roasters to the menu, so we're making up for it by offering everyone a chance to try one free of charge, no coupon required."

Arby's has been doing a lot to advertise this nation wide tasting event. The Arby's website: http://www.arbys.com/ provided an option for people to instantly add a reminder for the event to their personal electronic calendar. They also created a Facebook page for the event so Facebook friends can share the invitation so everyone can enjoy a free Turkey Roaster. They are very confident in their new line of sandwiches and is using this "give away promotion" to really spread the word.

The new Turkey Roasters offers a healthier option to customers who are looking for lower calorie sandwich. Arby’s hopes these new sandwich options will help “respond to customers’ changing tastes for lighter options.” Fast-food restaurants have always been known for convince and unhealthy foods, but in the past few years America has been going through a health craze and fast-food restaurants have been trying to keep up. Many fast-food restaurants have started offering fruit cups, salads, parfaits, etc. A few year ago Arby’s came out with a line of Market Fresh sandwiches in order to provide healthier alternatives to their other menu items. I think the addition of the new Turkey Roster sandwiches are going to work well with the other healthier items already on the menu, while also complementing Arby’s famous roast beef sandwiches. Arby’s is trying to adapt to the shifting demands of their customers while staying true to their trademark items.

Overall, Arby’s nation wide tasting event is pretty risky, but I think the new lines of sandwiches are going to be very successful. The campaign has been well advertised and these new menu items are already starting to draw a lot of attention. After all who doesn’t love free food? Especially if it is delicious and still good for you!

"It's Good Mood Food!"
